Marijuana Law Reform Is A Political Opportunity ? Not A Political Liability

Last January I proclaimed in the The Hill’s Congress blog: “Marijuana law reform is no longer a political liability; it’s a political opportunity.” Ten months later it appears that an unprecedented number of state-elected officials are heeding the message. Here’s just a sample.

COLORADO: Last week the Commission on Criminal and Juvenile Justice recommended legislators to substantially reduce marijuana penalties so that the possession of up to four ounces of pot would classified as a petty offense. Offenses involving greater amounts of cannabis (up to 16 ounces) would be reduced to a misdemeanor. State Attorney General John Suthers told the Denver Post that he supports the Commission’s recommendations which, if enacted, would make Colorado’s pot possession laws among the most lenient in the nation.

RHODE ISLAND: A special nine-member Senate panel met for the first time this week to debate revising the state’s criminal marijuana policies. The panel’s chair, Democrat Sen. Joshua Miller, said that the task-force will primarily focus on the subject of decriminalization, but that members will also likely debate the merits of taxing a regulating the adult use of cannabis. The panel’s recommendations to the legislature are due on January 10, 2010. In 2009, Rhode Island’s legislature became only the second to approve legislation licensing the establishment of medical cannabis dispensaries.

WISCONSIN: Democrat Gov. Jim Doyle recently announced his support for legislation that seeks to make Wisconsin the fourteenth state to allow for the legal use of medical cannabis. Both the Assembly and the Senate Public Health Committees are scheduled to hear testimony in favor of the legislation, known as the Jacki Rickert Medical Marijuana Act, on Tuesday, December 15, 2009.

WASHINGTON: Incoming Seattle city attorney Peter Holmes announced this week that his office will no longer charge anyone with simple marijuana possession offenses. “We’re not going to bring any more (marijuana possession) charges,” he said. There are other more important, more pressing public safety matters in need of attention with the limited resources we have.” Holmes added that he supports legislation to be introduced in 2010 that seeks to depenalize marijuana. Similar proposals introduced in 2009 died in committee.

PENNSYLVANIA: Next month legislators will hold their first hearing — ever — on legalizing the use of medical cannabis. The House Committee on Health and Human Services will hear testimony on HB 1393, The Barry Busch Compassionate Use Medical Marijuana Act of 2009, on Wednesday, December 2, at 11am in Room 140 of the Main Capitol. ARKANSAS: Democrat Senator Randy Laverty announced this week that he is considering introducing legislation to lessen or eliminate criminal penalties for marijuana possession offenses. Legislators in several other states, including New Hampshire and Texas, are also expected to debate marijuana legalization proposals in 2010.

CALIFORNIA: In the coming months legislators are expected to hold additional hearings on Assembly Bill 390, the Marijuana Control, Regulation, and Education Act, which seeks to tax and regulate the commercial production and retail sale of cannabis to those age 21 or older. The California Assembly Committee on Public Safety is anticipated to vote on the measure by late January. The vote will mark the first time that California, or the legislature of any state, has voted on the issue of cannabis regulation in over three decades.

I cant seem to upload a pic.. so here it is~ the leaves are dead and brown just at the very, very, end points of the leaf. 1/16 of an inch maybe at each of the little points, but it is getting bigger.

400w HPS only or 250W HPS/MH????

Which would you choose for about the same money a 250w with convertable digital ballist for HPS and MH or a 400w HPS only light?

It will go in a closet the is 6'x3'x8' (l x w x h). The garden is for personal use only and the gardener would prefer not to cut holes in the ceiling and walls to vent.

The walls will be covered in mylar and there are 3 x 26w clf's and one 65w clf work light in there right now providing light for seedlings. The 65w work light is really cool and is hanging presently, but it will be placed standing up later to penetrate the underside of the plants when they are taller and a second one will likely be purchased to perform the same function.

OK, so probably dumb question...

I've had pet rats for a couple years now and they're the best pets. They're like dogs, but a lot more fun and tiny. They learn commands and tricks like any other pet and I've just fallen in love with them over the past few years. Unfortunately about 8 months ago I had to take one to the vet to get put down (R.I.P. Sebastian) and now I have to take another one because he has a tumor and my oldest boy, Yinny, is turning 3 soon and not doing so hot :( I love rats, but I just wish they lived a little longer... Everytime I take a rat to the vet they charge me $30 and if I want to put them down $25, but I just HATE when people lecture me on "you can buy like 10 rats for that". grrrr... anyway, I'm done. My appointment is tomorrow morning and I'm just kind of upset :(

Hows it goin stoners and other recreational drug users of the world! This is JohnnyMatanuska here and i just wanna take a min to tell you about a few things that are on my mind about Alaska and other cool things. So I'm pretty new to this and its a pretty good alternative to myspace and other bull shit like that to me, and Im tryna get to meet new people that either live in alaska or just people that want to get to know more about the great state, or fuck.. even people that just wanna talk about drugs or good music. Did you know that Alaska has the highest population percentage of people that smoke Mary Jane in the United States! Even over Cali! well shit, what else is there to do here during the 8 month long winter besides snowboard or do drugs? pretty much nothing! Did you also know, that one of the Dankest and most Legendary weeds was founded and cultivated here, which would be the mighty Matanuska Thunder Fuck. Oh and yes there is still some here, for any of you people out there thinking its extinct.. I might be young but ive met so many ooold ass growers and drug dealers that I can get my hands on it and my name is pretty well known in the city i live in (Fairbanks) and yes ive travelled through Matanuska Valley (Mat-su Valley) .. anyways Im sure u guys are already tired to read anymore so if you want to know anything else interesting about Alaska or my experiences then feel free to private message me! need help getting on the right track, first grow

ok, first my set up (if you can even call it that)

2 4 foot florescent tubes both are philips natural sunshine 40 watt, 5000k on color temperature, and says its also known as full spectrum, sunshine, sunlight. each tube is pushing 2200 lumens.

i have 4 seedlings about 3-4 inches tall, and they are 3 or 4 weeks old!

now, because of some law difficulty, they spent a few days outdoors in the cold, or in a space with no light, but only 3 days and 2 were outside in sunlight.

i was used an ott light to sprout them but it didnt give off enough light for them after they got up to an inch or 2.

they are in organic soil, and i just mixed vermeculite in to help the roots breath and drain ect.

since thay are a few weeks old i started using very deliuted miracle gro on them today, also the new lights have only been on them for maybe 12 hrs, so i may be scared for nothing,

but as a noobie let me tell others not to make this mistake!

DO NOT BUY PHILIPS INCANDESCENT AGRO-LITES, they burned and dryed my plants, so they will prolly all come out male, but im just surprised i have even kept em alive this long,

they are seeds out of dank iv bought over the years, but im on a budget so i cant speed a million dollars on a ballast, hydro kit (unless someone has good cheap plans to make one) HPS lights ect cause im not trying to get a cannabis cup winner, i just wanna get stoned off something i grew ;bonghit

any usefull info is greatly appreciated,

I just added a filter to my joints. Smoked a couple of them now, it goes down much smoother. I highly recommend a roller and throwing in a filter to make it much better.
