1. I want to intern this summer at a company I REALLY want to work for, but I am afraid they'll drug test me. How do I get this question answered without asking, "Is there a drug test," or "Can I smoke pot?"

I met him at another job where he was a customer. Before I decided I wanted to work for the company, the boss and I were talking about college and he and I got to talking about pot. He said he used to smoke it and I'm not sure if he made that up to see if I did or not. I don't think he did because he and all the other passengers were pretty wild and seemed not to be that stuck up, but I want to make sure.

2. I don't know much about the illegality of weed, but I'm trying to learn now. Is there a list of people who have failed drug tests that companies and government groups can look you up to see if you failed?

a few things to consider...

-google it.
-if they do test, its best to start detoxing pronto. one of the cheapest methods is charcoal pills. go through a whole bottle over a period of a few days or a week and ull be solid for ur test
-the govt is not going to look at ur failed drug tests and nothing will go on your record

ask them for a company rule book. like rules expectations all that shit. it usually has a policy in it on drug screening. But if you go in for an interview, they will most likely tell you about it and give you like 24 hours to go take it. 24 hours doesnt sound like much time, but there are detox drinks and stuff you can get. or get another person to piss for you in a bottle and use theirs. just make sure you strap it to your leg so itll get warm. or put it in under your hood somewhere and let the engine do all the work on the way!

If I flat out asking them it seems that almost and admission of smoking weed. This is a very small company I think, so they may not even want to waste the resources on testing employees. And for that reason, they may not have an official rule book.

When I usually get a job, I work for small businesses because they are usually friendlier and chiller and don't have corporate rigamorole and BS to go through the motions of. I'm about to leave college and enter the "real" world and am afraid of not being able to smoke. I majored in marketing, so do you all think that means I'll have to quit until I retire?

someone somewhere is smoking pot and also being a successful marketer/analyst, maybe all at the same time.

you just have to make your own path to that goal yourself.

and during your application process something will tell you if a drug test is needed, at least in the states. if they havent made you sign any drug policy or testing paperwork, or the application doesnt have anything on it, i bet they dont test. but, ive been surprised by a test or two. just gotta move on to the next place who doesnt, or work your way around it.

people just dont make up things about doing drugs. if he says he smoked pot, im sure he toked the ganj. only the stiffs are teh ones who still think pot is a bad drug that can kill yah.

its just my guess, but companies tht ar big enuf to offer health insurance will prolly require drug tests, bummer, but you do what u have to do if u want tht job, and doin research on a company b4 u apply is always the smart thing, oh, and did u ask tht guy if he could give u a recomendation? possibly mention your name to his boss?

it's gettin harder and harder to do that in today's economy...and it's not necessarily up to the guy who he talked to on whether or not there's a drug policy.

If you were taking certain legal prescription medicine, you could ask in a roundabout way. One example (prescription I have) - 'I'm interested in working here, but I'm a little concerned because my dr. prescribed pain killers for me and I don't want to start off by failing a test just because I took the medicine he gave me.' If you're taking a prescription that doesn't affect those tests - play dumb and express your concerns about that medication showing up on a test.

I love tests, so when this happens I ask, excited, if the drug test is multiple choice or oral. They always laugh, and they will answer your question.

Yeah, like someone else said, usually at the interview you hear about it, but take it like a day or two later, depending on when you start. Alot of times, if they pay less than 8$ an hour, they can't afford drug testing, because it's expensive to send to lab and such. Try not to sweat it, if you find out you do have one, you can find someone else to piss for. If it's an internship, they probably wouldn't drug test you.

(most are gonna give you a urine test instead of blood test anyway, but that question doesn't make you look so guilty)

sometimes they term it "pre-employment physical"
check it out, i say just ask them.
i've gone to places before, asked if they drug tested straight up. i'm sure they get it, and they probably smoke themselves, or have at one point, anyway.

I think tha you gotta assume that you'll have one with your pre-employment physical .. You should be clean for that ... Once you get hired .. check out the company policy .. most will not test further, unless there is evidence that you are working under the influence ..

Just me .. but I would never ask the question ..
