Some people with multiple sclerosis (MS) say that smoking cannabis (also called marijuana) improves their symptoms. Some research has looked at whether smoking cannabis, or taking tablets or a spray containing cannabis extract, can help people with MS.
It is illegal to possess most kinds of cannabis in the UK. There is no official exception to the law for people who use cannabis for medical purposes.
A cannabis spray is available in Canada under the brand name Sativex. It aims to help with muscle spasms without the 'high' of smoking cannabis.1 This spray isn't available as a standard treatment for MS in the UK. But doctors can prescribe it for individual patients, based on their own judgement. Talk to your doctor if you're interested in this treatment.



Some research has suggested that cannabis could have benefits for people with MS.2 But we need more research to be sure. It's possible that cannabis helps with:2

• Muscle stiffness or spasms
• Pain
• Sleep problems.

There is a massage treatment that would work well for MS sufferers too.


its called Myofascial Release, if you ever get a chance to go get a massage, ask your therapist if they practice Myofascial Release. Its a less invasive way of getting a massage and your muscles worked on without all the deep massage.

I get Sativex from time to time from a sufferer of ms.
"Sativex" is still on licence in the uk and a central hospital has the program.
It was introduced to see if it can help ms patients and other terminal patients,from what im aware you must be referred to this hospital for this treatment.
Bottles are returned and new scrips filled,only at this hospital,while patients all over the country are benifiting from it,its centralised through the pain management clinic.Treatment and its effectivness is monitored while in hospital and is becoming much more available to those who would benifit from it.
While referral is needed one only has to ask,it does benifit massively in alot of peoples lives,reducing spasm's and making movement of limbs possible in some cases and easier in others.
The oralmuscular spray, once or twice under the tongue provides a high dose of cbd as well as thc,providing an almost instant effect which lasts a few hours.
It truely is a miracle drug imm,I dont think the person I speak of could face living without it.
GW pharma have grows to provide the mj to be used in Sativex,im not aware of where though.
It can also help sufferers of post trammatic stress syndrone an other illnesses.

Hi Kiwi,
We have a small group of MS medpot users in Auckland, just had a meeting today to work out how to put the screws on the MS Society to get behind them.
With a bit of luck there will be a German Pharmacologist with special interest in MS/ medpot visiting both Aussie and NZ April/ May next year ..it is not yet finalized but five top international medpot experts in varied fields , plus some visiting medpot users as well as local experts and users for a planned conference .

Great to have another fellow kiwi join up here. Thanks for the info you left me, I am going to look into it right now while I am sitting here. I have suffered with MS since 2001 and I can't for the life of me understand why our government stick their heads in the sand when it comes to Medical Cannabis usage!! Really hope to see you in chat in the near future Tony??

While Peter Dunne controls medical cannabis in NZ , John Key will not even talk about it or let any of his team.. Look how they block voted the Medpot bill out of the House on the first reading..
We have got to win the hearts and minds of the special interest groups and medical people.. most are behind us, just to intimidated to speak out.

Amazing! I have a friend who has gone to medical usage from over 4K of meds to the new therapy, now takes one pill for a separate issue, bill for meds now is only 25 dollars a month. He is now in his 6th month of the new regimen.

He has stabilized and walks now without a cane, speech is now quite good and his appetite has improved and he gained 5 lbs. He is now able to play golf again after ten years of inability. Recent MRI scan of his brain is being compared to one taken last year before the therapy commenced.

He is rendering the herb into butter and making brownies and cookies to ingest.

The difference is just amazing! He has been battling for over 2o years and this is the first time there is regression rather than progression. His physician is absolutely amazed, we, his friends are delighted with this positive change!

Just to let you know there has been an increase in Sativex approvals recently in NZ, sadly not Auckland as yet .It was a general ADHB/ CMDHB policy in the past they used , now its just more an aversion to the mass and complication of the paper work involved.
