Pot Leaf 'Dune'

I started reading the 'Dune' series by Frank Herbert not too long ago. I'm on the third one, Children of Dune. Anyone else read this series? I think it's pretty good so far. Anyone have any suggestions for other sci-fi authors?

Re: 'Dune'

I fucking love the Dune series.

Here's some advice though: don't read the Brian herbert/Kevin J. Anderson Dune novels. Some of the backstory is interesting, but the writing is frankly piss poor.

I'd recommend more frank herbert (particularly the novels set in the Destination: Void universe, beginning with the novel of the same name), some Philip Dick, Christopher Priest, Poul Anderson, Robert Heinlein, and Ray Bradbury (who is more noticeably 'sci-fi' in his short fiction, imo) to round things out.

Re: 'Dune'

I'm reading Children of Dune right now. I must've read Dune 10 times by now, what a masterpiece.

Re: 'Dune'

I read all 3 of Herbert's series....great story. A very old early sci-fi author you might enjoy is Andre' Norton, or even better Edgar Rice Burrows' "Pellucidar" series., or at the earth's core. In larger metropolitan librarys is where you'll most likely find a copy to borrow.

It's been well nearly 40 years since I read any of those particular author's writings, but I remember enjoying the reads.

Terry Brooks wrote a series of stories about magic and dragons and wizardry you may enjoy as well.

Happy hunting....TTH

Re: 'Dune'

Thanks for the info, brother. I'll probably take a look into those.
