I only read a few chapters of choke, but Chuck Palahnuik is a great author. I've also read survivor by him it was kind of fucked up. Crank by Ellen Hopkins is pretty good and completly about drugs and the down fall of a heavy crank user.

Drawing a blank, too ripped I suppose. I'll post some more later. | So I know this is a little late, but the title of the novel Blade runner was based on is actually Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? A very good novel, though. Philip K. Dick is a favorite author of mine. I'd also suggest A Scanner Darkly (same author), which is an involving story that heavily features drug use. As a side note, the movie adaptation of a scanner darkly is one of the few book-to-film adaptations that I heartily approve of (but the book was still way better).

It's not remotely drug related but The Road by Cormac McCarthy is sooo worth reading. It's probably the bleakest pulitzer winner ever.

"The Road" is awesome. All of McCarthy's work is killer, but some of his stuff is written so eloquently that it can be difficult to read (feels like you just read a modern shakespeare almost) Quote:

I really liked Blood Meridian. It was so dark and evil and awesome.

Carlos Castaneda's The Teachings Of Don Juan: The Yaqui Way Of Knowledge
It's about an outsider taking a tribal spiritual journey climaxing with Mezcal in the desert.
I hear his other books are good too but I haven't read them.

this thread inspired me to start reading again, something i havent done since i started high school. I used to read a lot but high school i guess sucks your will to learn right out of you.
I went down to the library and got out The Rum Diary, and Kingdom of Fear both by Hunter S. as well as From Bauhaus to our House by Tom Wolfe. Im half way through Rum Diary and its great so far, particularly for an aspiring journalist (i start a diploma in communications tomorrow.

Highschool certainly sucked my will for just about everything.
