Neil Gaiman rocks hardcore

Neil Gaiman has more talent and genius in his little finger than most writers have in their entire body.

Anyone who has read the Sandman comics will probably inform you that Neil Gaiman is an amazing storyteller. Anyone who's read his novels will probably ask you if you have accepted Neil Gaiman as your lord and savior.

Over my Christmas vacation I had the opportunity to read for fun for the first time in months and I picked up three of his novels, American Gods, Anansi Boy's, and Good Omens.

Good Omens is essentially a comedy about Armageddon and the Apocalypse(as according to the Christian faith). I don't think I've ever laughed so hard at a book, anyone who watched me reading it must have thought I was a complete tard. Amazing book.

Next I read American God's which is far to complex for me to even hope to summarize here, but is probably the best book I've read since....truth be told I cant think of a book I've enjoyed more immensely than I enjoyed American Gods. One of those books that leaves you so satisfied at the end you want to smoke a cigarette and tell the book to go make you a sandwich.

Anansi Boy's was probably the least thrilling of the 3, but still an amazing book. Really, I want to impress upon you that just because it didn't one up the other two doesn't mean it didn't rock balls. Its kind of like comparing one piece of Filet Mignon to another, at the end of the day its all gourmet fuckin cuisine.

Anywho, sorry for the rant, but Neil Gaiman rules and I felt compulsed to inform people and see if anyone else has read his novels.

Wow. I got so happy when I saw this thread. I absolutely love his work. I actually am probably about the ONLY Neil Gaiman fan that HASN'T read the Sandman comics yet, simply because I haven't had the money to go buy them!

I have read American Gods- It's AMAZING. Possibly, by far, my favorite. I have read TONS of his books, I think.

And, because I have absolutely nothing better to do, I feel I shall post a list of all of his books that I have read in order of most awesome in my opinion.

1. American Gods
2. Good Omens
3. Anansi Boys
4. The Sandman - Dream Hunters (Okay, so I lied, I forgot about this one.)
5. Stardust
6. Neverwhere

....Um, I guess that's not TONS, but I've read a good number. I really do think American Gods is his masterpiece right now. And Good Omens is definitely fantastic. Great for anyone questioning the truth behind the run of the mill Christian Doctrine that so many take way more literally than they should.

On that note, another great book for those reading in that topic is Lamb by Christopher Moore - Funny in the same way that Good Omens is, but by far a little bit more sacrilegious.

I'd agree with you that American Gods is his masterpiece as far as novels go, but if you loved his other stuff you absolutely HAVE to read Sandman, because to me that will always be his greatest work!

When you say you read Neverwhere, I assume you mean the novel? Theres a graphic novel version too.

I've only read Good Omens and some of the sandman comics, but i agree he's really good. I'll try to look out for american gods

Neil Gaiman is a good comic-book storyteller. I read all of the Sandman as it was released month to month and I was entertained. However, I read Grant Morrison's The Invisibles and was never the same again. So yeah, Gaiman is good, but there are better out there.

There are none better! Lol, to each their own, but you should give American Gods a spin. I'll keep an eye out for the invisibles
