| Re: Historical Events that Have Affected You
Liz C.-18- September 11th, 2001.
Back when the whole country was getting over the attacks on the world trade center and pentagon, I was 10. Yeah, I didn't think much of it then, but looking back, it did effect me. It may sound kind of harsh, but I'm glad that everything happened the way it did. Shortly after September 11th, every time I watched the news, I kept realizing that something wasn't right and that the American government is not so great as they lead you to believe in elementary school.
I started getting involved in political and social activism, wrote many a letter to different public officials about many different things. Of course that didn't really help, but it couldn't hurt either. I completely renovated my thoughts and ideals on life and religion. I was born a catholic, now I'm (i guess what you could call) an atheist. The attacks made me notice how blind I was to all the bullshit any government puts it's people through. I can't really remember a time where I didn't think about what the government and media was trying to shove down my throat every day.
Anyway, here I am today, almost nine years older, still as politically independent and socially liberal as possible, still don't have a god, fell in love with this great atheist guy who is a conspiracy nut and one of the smartest, insightful people i know. All because some jackasses decided that it would be a great idea to hijack two passenger planes and fly them into a building I didn't even know existed at the time.
So yeah, I hope that helps you...good luck with everything. =]
