this seemed like a good idea on paper but doesn't really work to well
Take 1 empty 1 gallon plastic pitcher cut a hole big enough 4 a glass downtube and slide(in my case its a GonG set)
add herb and fire

Found this site. Thought some of you might like these. Homemade Drilled glass "Bong-Pipe" 3/8 hole for heat proof tubing. 5/16 hole for Carb. Chrome Vandium 10 or 11 mm socket with a 3/8 ratchet connection.
Before Drilling
After Drilling
Hope you like |

I don't have pictures yet...to busy to get out my box and take pics, but here's a few tips...
1. The more games, tricks, joints, pieces or whatever else you think might be cool is usually much more trouble than it's worth. I've made a hundred pieces over the years and all have failed eventually. My latest piece is the culmination of all my efforts over the years and visually appears to be as simplistic as you could make it. The only failing it has is the need to be cleaned every so often. If you accept that as a rule to all pipes you have a much better chance at their continued function. So...
2. Clean your pipe using isoprophyl alcohol. Just use those old style brown glass dishes (the tiny bowl) and put your parts in it...cover them with the alcohol and walk away for about five minutes. Use lots of paper towels and get the now goo-i-fied cake off the parts. Repeat if necessary (especially in screw threads). Alcohol can cause some materials to dry out so...
3. If you make your pipe using FIMO, Sculpey or whatever for non-working decorative parts or sheeths it will dry out when cleaned with isoprophyl alcohol. Simply lightly rub some veggie or olive oil on those parts with a paper towel and buff off any excess. Tah Dah...shiny and smooth like new. Your hand's oil will eventually do the same thing, but why wait or risk cracks.
4. Skip out on a carb unless the stem is freakishly long. That's all it does...clear out that chamber and/or stem. If you add a chamber you can pretty much eliminate the need by...
5. Add a nugg to the chamber in the stem in order to give a purpose to that latent smoke sitting in the stem and absorb any liquidy resins instead of them going onto your tongue. That chamber should have a central joint for ease of cleaning and retrieval/switching of the "chamber-nugg." Chamber nuggs are reserved for dark times as the resin coating acts as a preservative. Nothing lasts forever though.
6. EVERY joint in a pipe of any type should be fitted with a rubber fitting of some type. I'll use the chamber as an example. It should probably have a screw-thread joint. If you add a rubber "o-ring" to either the threaded side of the joint or embedded half-way into the FIMO skin it will act as a compression clamp when you screw the two parts together. It takes practice, but the results can be attractive and (most importantly) resin/water-tight. When you accomplish that you prevent the destroyer of skinned-metal pipes...liquid resin getting between the metal and the skin-material (FIMO, leather, etc.). So that leads to another point...
7. Metal (brass preferred) pieces comprise every portion of the pipe that smoke touches...unless you can blow glass...then do that. Once you've built your pipe that way you can skin it however you want. My favorite (now dead, but kept) pipe had a metal stem skinned with thick brown leather that I sewed on with leather strap (after soaking and stretching it on) and hand oiled it to protect it from resin stains. It failed when the resin ate the "waterproof" glue externally sealing the stem to the bowl. Watproof does not mean resin-proof.
8. A screw-on lid for your metal bowl is a major plus. It should have a "squeaker" hole in the middle for travel smoking. Cover it with a skin if it helps your design, but don't sacrifice function.
9. The last point I have for now is that if you're going to use FIMO (or whatever) it can not be hit with flame or it will burn...and it is toxic. That means when the metal bowl comes to its apex the FIMO skin must be below its lip.
10. I repeat...simplicity. My last design was based on the same principle as my current pipe, but I went all out on the FIMO skins. It ended up looking like a giant catepillar that had been infested by Borg circuitry and armor...horns...red glowing eyes...throbbing green veins...messed up and one hell of a thing to look at while smoking. First fangs and horns started breaking off; making it hard to sit down without it rolling, then the skin (which was uneven and thin in some parts) began to fracture from the constant heat changes from smoking. It eventually self destructed.
11. Last, and mentioned a bit above, always make sure you can sit your pipe down. At the very least flatten the bottom of the pipe skin so you can set it on a table. If you want to add tripod type legs (fangs, horns, whatever) it'll stand up on carpet as well...for as long as they stay attached. Internal wire framing would help. Maybe chopping up a paper clip would be useful.
My newest design is simply spheres of FIMO with the metal parts at their center. The rubber o-ring seals are half-embedded into the skin and over top of the screw-thread joints at all points of seperation. It has a central stem chamber made of metal as is the rest of the stem, the elbow, lid and the bowl. Since each piece is seperable I can disassemble the whole thing for easy cleaning. It just looks like a series of bubbles chained together in swirly Rasta colors. The spheres seem to keep the heat from overburdening any given point of the skin. It appears soooo simple, but there are years of experience behind it. No damage over the last 6+ months. It never overheats. No more resin in the mouth. You can smoke for multiple...multiple sessions before switching out chamber nuggs and even longer before it needs a full cleaning. I honestly think I've finally designed the perfect standard metal pipe. I had never considered producing them until juuuuuuust....NOW! |

I'm just curious how close to vape-temps it gets. I smoke enough per month where I was willing to pay for Da Buddha. If the claims are correct I'll make my money back in under a month. However, before that I was not willing based on the costs of a vape. At that point I was only aware of the Volcano and HerbalAire. After a month's worth of research I had to go with DaBuddha for cost effectiveness, controlability, efficiency (big deal when talkin' smoke) and the break-even cost-to-intake ratio. Ever since I ordered it I've been wondering if I might not be able to do just as good a job or better if I put my mind to it. I mean; it's just a variable temperature ceramic element inside a glass tube sitting in a metal tube. You could probably get most of your parts from a desktop coffee cup warmer. For me it's all about doing for yourself whatever you can, but the benefit of not having to pay for much is always a bonus. The only bit of warning I would give is to be careful not to leave it on. Many folks reagaile with stories of passing out with their vape on and how great it is that it didn't burn down the house. Since you are effectively vaping with a lightbulb you have about as much chance of burning down the house as when you read a book under a lamp. Last point...be careful of whatever chemicals or whatever that might be coating the objects you're using to vape with. I hear of people using lightbulbs (that they didn't buy online, pre-cleaned), but they neglect to consider the coating inside the bulb. In your case; the "globe" you're using is not easily identifiable so I can't tell where it came from. Just be careful, 'cuz glass from other countries might contain high levels of lead. I don't want you getting the benefits of vaping just to get worse than smoking from the vape itself. We want those lungs in good working order...they have alot more vaping to do.

I just found something in my fridge and figured what the hell might as well smoke out of it.
I used highlighters and a socket for the bowl and stem.
The bong itself is craneberry juice bottle.
Not the best but still works.

I made an amazing shotgun pipe out of the clear part from a mechanical pencil, some tape, a screw and a guitar strap button, ill put pics up as soon as i can.
It really was a great pipe (i say this because its no longer mine, i gave it to my friend)
Annnd I made this pipe from a plumbing fixture, a piece of metal tubing. the tape is just covering a hole in the tubing. i have a real screen i bought, but i was using some i had cut from my window XD

This is my homemade Gravity Bong- Bertha
I haven't touched her really since I got my glass piece, but when I was still making all my pieces this was my crown jewel.
I don't think I've changed the water in close to YEAR...I don't remember the last time I used her, but I can't get rid of her.

I've been thinking on making a GravBong for a few years now, I just don't want to take the time because I have nowhere to store it haha

You can keep it anywhere under the bed, in the closet, or behind the couch.
That grav bong was the best no leaks and never broke(Unlike all my other homemade pieces eventually)
