I have a fairly good number of pipes and bongs and I've always used two products to clean them. Denatured Alcohol for one, it cuts resin like a hot knife through butter, it's pretty much explosive and it leeches all the oils out of your skin. Not being one to spring for Nitrile gloves, I've tried to discontinue my use of high octane solvents (yes I know octane has nothing to do with this, just a turn of phrase) due to the damage done to my hands. The solution now, no pun intended, is something called "Green Clean", it's basically the same as simple green, just concentrated 10:1, good strong shit. The only problem I've experienced with this stuff is some serious rinsing is needed after cleaning, it tends to want to leave a film on the glass/metal, whatever. I've also tried any number of household cleaners, all to no avail. Actually there are numerous resin stains in my sink as we speak, from failed attempts to use alternative products. What do you prefer for cleaning?

i use oxi clean, its a powder in the laundry aisle,
works great, just soak overnight,
and i try to keep my hands out of it as much as possible,
i was readin the back of a bottle of 'simply green',
think it was made by clorox,
omg,
warning label says it was just as toxic as any other cleaner,
so i guess its best to rinse, rinse, rinse...
and now tht its clean, its time to use it |

Soak it in some oxiclean for a day or too, and rinse it with scalding hot water and you will be good to go. Definitely don't want to end up inhaling that shit. haha.
Peace and Pot.

Yes... Oxiclean is the SHIT! Definitely recommend it! I've tried a lot of different things to clean my bongs and oxiclean was by far the easiest.

So Oxi Clean doesn't leave any kind of residue on the piece you're cleaning? I also wanted to know if it has any adverse effects on metal. Being that it is "Oxy" clean, there has to be some kind of activated oxygenation going on, this usually spells bad news for metal. I may have to experiment a bit before committing the Oxy-blaspheme. Appreciate the feedback.

I'm glad you brought that up though! I just bought a new metal piece and i'd be pretty upset if i ruined it!
I don't believe it leaves any residue, my friend and I soaked her piece in some for a few days and then rinsed the hell out of it with hot water. works well.

Right on, thank you for the response. I can't say weather I would or would not have read the back of the container, I'm glad you did. Back on the hunt for quality cleaning solutions, to the future!

One of the easiest and safest methods is Isopropyl/rubbing Alcohol and salt. Rubbing Alcohol is pure Alcohol mixed with distilled water, this will break down the resin, the salt acts as an abrasive to remove any stubborn spots. You can mix it up in a bag or a food container and shake the fucker until it's clean. I really like denatured Alcohol, just because it's a very powerful solvent. Cuts resin ridiculously fast, as well as any natural oils in your hands, bad juju. Any head shop will have a variety of cleaners, Orange oil, enzymatic, all that shit. You're bound to find something you like.

That's a drag. It really is unfortunate that there isn't a chain headshop, that we all can get coupons and frequent shopper points at. Buy four pipes get your fifth free! We could all hit up the produce department. . .
