ok, u can buy papers just about anywhere,
dont be afraid to try different ones,
the longer ones are best for beginners,
pipes and bongs, you'll have to find a head shop,
and if you can, get a vaporizer,
they are better for your smoking health

I dont really want to smoke joints because I hear they are wasteful.
I made a bong a few days ago, but its not that good.

I was thinking a glass pipe to start with.

glass pipe wouldn't be bad, just don't feel like you absolutely have to get glass. truth be told, glass hits the hottest (after all, it never gets hot, therefore its not cooling the smoke as much). also there are some awesome stealthy metal pipes. those wooden folding pipes look cool, never tried one though.

Meh, I always thought glass pipes look the coolest.

How much is a metal pipe?

if portability/concealability/gadgetry isn't a priority, go for glass. my preferred piece (after my vape) is a glass bubbler. however, it is my opinion that the most useful pipes tend to not be glass. if you just want a basic metal pipe, you can get one for less than 5 bucks probably. there are some awesome stealthy metal pipes that range in usefulness and price. i personally suggest a zeppelin (use search on here to see what that is), and they can be had for cheap. they aren't the best for big sessions though, as it can be a pain to clean/repack the bowl.

I think I'm just going to go for glass.

thickness, style, hole at the bottom of the bowl (it can be annoying when it is too big), weight

If they will let you handle it before you buy it, try to run your hands on it and see if's smooth all the way around. I just bought one, and I had to pick it through a glass case, well it has like 2 flat spots on it where the guy who made it must have set it down on the table while it was still hot/soft. It's no big deal to me, but my buddy says thats fucked up I had to pay $36 and its flawed. Like I said though, I could care less, it does the trick and it was fun watching it change colors.

Oh and I dont really know why you think a joint is wasteful, smoking out of an aluminum can is not good, go buy a $2 pack of papers for Pete's sake, you can roll them as big as you like, so you wont waste. I smoke more J's than bowls, love my grinder and ZigZags. Peace Bro, love to see your piece when you scoop one up.

some people say joints are wasteful because they keep burning when you aren't hitting. i think this is exaggerated, as not all that much smoke escapes, just a thin stream

Yeah man, pot doesnt continue to burn like tobacco, if you stop hitting it, it will eventually just go out, weed has to be like super schwaggy dry shit to keep burning and then it will usually go out after awhile. Buy a pack of skins and stop smoking out of cans until you get that piece bro.

Oh and I didnt think $36 was too bad, there is a pic in the hash and buds section, "I like Buds, dead or alive" thread. Not too bad, nice and thick, I think it will be hard for me to bust it.
