I've got some bamboo growing on one of my properties...My hubby wants to try making our own after seeing this and I think he's a genius. I'll post pics if its a success!

I took wood carving i back in the day when I was a boyscout. It'd be fun to try to carve one out. Don't think anyone could come close to that design. Hopefully it hits well

wood bongs give it a slight taste of the wood it is made out off so depending on the wood used yes it does (from past experiences) but im not sure about bamboo

Ive used a bamboo bong before, and on its own, it doesnt have taste (too faint to notice). this one i bought has more taste. inspecting and smelling the inside, it shows that it was baked.
