much like these eyes of mine

so much I hoped, to change the world

but now I wonder, why should I waste my time?


When I was younger, they told me I could be anything

as I got older, I realized that was a lie

they said son, all you gotta do is dream, and you will be

Yeah unless you aint got a penny.


Broken dreams, trampled on by the strong

all my hopes, stolen by the powerful

my saving grace, comes at 6.75 an hour

and people wonder why I think my grapes taste so sour.


Just because I don't drive a high end SUV

Just because I don't think my government works best for me

Just because I don't conform to society

they have stolen whats left of me.


This is America, anything you want, you can have

unless you're broke or hey your credit's bad

The American dream has changed, from what it once was

Instead of happiness, everyone wants a truck as big as a bus....


So tell me why again do I try?

so tell me why I should care? Why should I do my best?

Cuz no matter how hard I try, my best gets trampled on like all the rest

and they laugh all the way to the bank


broken dreams, hopes gone with the wind

hey look your neighbors just had a pool put in!

No longer is doing your job, working hard, giving your all enough

no way, you gotta keep buying our stuff.


Hey heres a brand new doohickey you don't need

We're gonna sell you all this crap, til your bank account bleeds

Forget about your future, aint nothing in there it seems

Lets buy all this crap, and give up on our dreams.


Travel over Europe, nah thats overrated

See the sun rise in Tibet, thats a bit outdated

Swim with the dolphins on a coral reef

Hey McDonalds invented a sandwich with more beef!
